About Police Judo
Police Judo operates a number of recreational judo programs under the not for profit Law Enforcement Training Association – LETA. It is a judo-based physical training system designed to develop control and arrest skills, judo proficiency, physical literacy, strength, conditioning and self defence awareness. Police Judo is committed to teaching ethical use of force using appropriate, effective, and practical techniques for law enforcement.
Who is it for?
Police Judo is designed for everyone, including civilians, students, volunteers, applicants, recruits and sworn officers. This is a physically challenging judo-based training program designed to help students develop functional strength related to controlling resistive, combative, and aggressive individuals. This program is suitable for individuals looking to learn judo, control tactics, gain better fitness and learn valuable self-defence skills in a positive coaching environment with like-minded students. For those interested in law enforcement, proper control tactics training should ideally begin before formal training, be relevant to the job demands, and be appropriate training under the National Use of Force model. Police Judo meets these requirements and has been adapted and designed for real-life application by officers who have decades of experience working on the street. These are tested and proven techniques that work in difficult and challenging conditions.
Training Floor
All Police Judo facilities have real steel spring training floors. The steel springs are 4.5 inches tall and placed every square foot, accompanied by two layers of birch plywood and 2-inch thick roll-out mats ontop. The Instructors of Police Judo are committed to providing the best training surface possible for skill acquisition in our programs. A sprung training floor is the Police Judo standard. By investing significant resources into a resilient and shock absorbing floor, we have created a safer training environment, reduced the impact of throws and takedowns, and enhanced the speed, technique and judo skills of our students.
