About Police Judo
Police Judo is a martial arts training program open to participants of all ages, starting at four years old. Police Judo programs are offered through Odd Squad Productions’ Physical Literacy Pathway (www.oddsquad.com), a youth prevention initiative that helps develop essential life skills such as self-confidence, strength, respect, and resilience. The pathway includes a range of programs, including woodwork, hiking, wilderness expeditions, and Police Judo.
Police Judo helps students develop physical fitness, fundamental movement and balance skills, breakfalls, throws, takedowns, and groundwork. A variety of programs are available to accommodate different ages, experience levels, and goals—from youth and beginners with no prior experience to individuals interested in a career in law enforcement, serving police officers, and skilled athletes pursuing competitive judo. A dedicated Women’s Police Judo program is also available.
Police Judo was developed by law enforcement professionals with decades of experience in use-of-force situations, ranging from operational policing on the street to working in correctional facilities. For law enforcement personnel, Police Judo bridges the gap between control and arrest training and the practical application of judo techniques, emphasizing approaches that are low-risk and high-yield. Many Police Judo instructors also have extensive experience coaching judo athletes, making competitive judo another training option available to participants.
Whatever their age, background, or goals, participants can enjoy a fun, challenging, and rewarding martial arts experience grounded in one core philosophy: “Be Kind, Be Gentle, Be Strong”.
