Are you a licensed security professional who carries and uses handcuffs? Then you must add a Restraint Endorsement to your Security Worker License. To receive this endorsement, you must complete advanced security training.

Advanced Security Training is a 24-hour course that focuses on providing a foundation in:

  • Security Services Act & Regulations
  • Advanced Force Options Theory
  • Introduction to Control Tactics
  • Application of Restraints
  • Hyper-Active Delerium with Severe Agitation & Positional Asphyxia
  • Reporting & Documentation

Program Details

  • Instructors approved by JIBC provide Advanced Security Training (AST). These instructors are required to follow the training standards for the security industry as outlined in the BC Security Services Act.
  • Students must achieve a minimum of 75% to successfully complete the training. Successful students will receive their Certification for Training Completion electronically.Introduction to Control TacticsApplication of Restraints

Facility

You will learn in a comfortable, state-of-the-art classroom with knowledgeable instructors who can guide you through the Advanced Security Training program. All physical control skills are delivered on a world-class martial arts steel-sprung floor.

AST Instructor Bios

Ret. Sgt. Mark Steinkampf

Mark Steinkampf’s policing career with the Vancouver Police Department included more than 15 years walking the Beat in Vancouver’s drug-addled Downtown Eastside,  more than five years in the VPD Emergency Response Team and as the Sergeant in charge of the Mounted Unit. He completed his career instructing police use of force at the Tactical Training Centre. While working for the VPD, he has earned 13 commendations in policing, including the Lieutenant Governor General’s Meritorious Service Medal, Lieutenant Governor General’s medal for Valour, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for Meritorious Service and the Governor General of Canada’s Meritorious Service Medal. He has trained in Tae Kwon Do, Gojo Ryu Karate, and is a certified black belt instructor in Police Judo. He instructs both in the Law Enforcement Studies program and police recruits’ use of force at the Justice Institute of British Columbia. Mark is currently the Head Instructor for Tactical Police Judo at Odd Squad Productions in Burnaby. He is one of the founding members of both Police Judo and Odd Squad Productions. He has lectured on substance abuse issues throughout BC, Canada, and elsewhere in the world.

Ian Henderson

Ian Henderson has been working in the contract security industry since 1999. He has worked in several environments, including retail shopping malls, mobile field operations, commercial office towers, high-risk events and loss prevention.  Ian has almost 25 years of leadership experience in the security industry and has managed several programs with high training requirements and high-risk operational requirements. 
 
Ian was certified as a use-of-force instructor in 2008 and has actively taught security personnel since then. He is also certified as an instructor in Pressure Point Control Tactics, Non-Violent Communication, Defensive Tactics, and Advanced Security Training. In addition to this, Ian has been active in the martial arts community for 30 years; currently, he is training in traditional judo.
